PROLOGUE

At least once in our lives, we ask ourselves, what does it mean to be human? Does it mean being kind to others? Helping them in their time of need? Being devoted to your job? Making a family, or a legacy? Or perhaps it’s something more extreme, like devoting yourself to your country, perhaps at the cost of your life? Or may be…is it fighting against the Unknown? What you don’t understand? What you see as “evil”?

Many believe, that if you believe it’s true, it MUST be true. But is that even true? Is what we don’t believe or understand our true enemy? Or maybe…just maybe does that spell our own blissful ignorance?

None can say for certain, except for one thing which is as true as the grass is green.

Humans are flawed, just like every other creature that breathes, eats, and sleeps. But humans have trained themselves over the centuries to believe that they are above nature. That they are kings among nature, Gods even. But in truth, they’re just on top of the food chain.

But despite our pursuit of absolute safety, one thing remains absolute; life likes playing dirty. And many creatures are unfortunate enough to be its victims. Natural disasters, war, physical and mental disabilities, disease, famine or being in the crosshairs of someone who shouldn’t have a gun. These are many things that determine which people rise to the peak of their lives, and which ones pass on before they have the chance, cast aside as the unnecessary extras.

But what if the ones who were wronged…got a second chance? A second chance that made them better than they once were? What would they do with it? Try again to live the lives they once did? Live an entirely new life? Or take vengeance on those who unfairly wronged them? Or even make peace with them? But whatever the motive, this second chance came at a price; you would no longer be human.

Like the phenomenon named life itself, this is a mystery come alive. And there are those who are afraid of what they don’t know, and so try to take control and burn what they don’t like. Not always out of hatred or bloodlust, but sheer unjustified fear.

Because they let fear take control, they lose sight of what is truly important, and in their pursuit of controlled safety and the illusion of peace, which in truth is excused hatred.

And that is what this story is about. The victims of fearful oppression in the form of natural selection and their fight for freedom….when one stood for all, all stood as one. This is a story of sorrow and joy, the elusive day when everything came together, and darkness and light incarnate were as one. And all of it…started with a blast.
